Mbroh Professionals Expand Expertise at TxDOT PEPS Conference

Three Mbroh professionals had the opportunity to further their professional growth and learn about key processes with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) on Dec. 11 and 12, 2024.

Mbroh Chief Operating Officer James “Brooks” Schultze, alongside Director of Transportation Ernestine Mbroh and Houston Area Client Officer Veronica Weaver-Rivers, PE, PMP,  attended the TxDOT Professional Engineering Procurement Services (PEPS) Conference, which provided insight and updates on the TxDOT procurement processes to the consultant community and TxDOT’s districts and divisions.

Thursday’s event featured a panel moderated by TxDOT PEPS Division Director Martin Rodin, PE, with panelists Howard Holland, Randy Hopmann, Buddy Williams and Carlos Swonke. Breakout sessions included topics like contract negotiations, invoicing, project management and databases and ended with a presentation about innovations in PEPS.

Brooks had the opportunity to meet Rodin and attend his closing presentation, alongside meeting with retired Col. Mike Helton, PE, the former Portland District Commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Veronica supported Mbroh as a mentee firm in TXDOT’s DRIVE program and connected with fellow professionals to learn more about scaling the company’s capacity as a value-driven HUB/DBE firm. She also met Chet Garner, the creator, host and executive producer of “The Daytripper,” a 12-time Emmy-award-winning Texas travel show airing on PBS stations across the country. Garner was the keynote speaker on the conference’s first day and spoke about inspiring others to appreciate Texas’ beauty.
