Local ASCE Meeting Covers Southeast Connector Project, Engineers Week Activities

James “Brooks” Schultze, Mbroh COO, attended the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Luncheon in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 12, an event hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) featuring briefings on design and build phases of current projects.

The project in discussion was the Southeast Connector, consisting of approximately 16 miles of non-tolled improvements to I-20 from Forest Hill Drive to Little Road, to I-820 from I-20 to Brentwood Stair Road, and to US 287 from Bishop Street to Sublett Road. This project addresses congestion and safety issues in the area as identified through the Texas Clear Lanes Initiative, according to the TxDOT website.

According to Schultze, the event was one of the most attended he has seen, with approximately 200 engineers present from across Dallas-Fort Worth. Schultze also learned about an upcoming ASCE event for Engineers Week, where volunteers will help students learn and discover more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) topics in the hopes of attracting more students into those fields of study.

Schultze also had the chance to talk with ASCE Fort Worth President Lindsey Lafferty, PE, about upcoming events and volunteering opportunities.
