Mbroh Team Attends CECON 2024 in Frisco, Texas

The Mbroh Engineering team recently attended the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Civil Engineering Conference (CECON) in Frisco, Texas. The conference is a premier gathering of civil engineering professionals across the state and provides a valuable opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on several engineering topics.

Brooks Schultze Reconnects with Texas A&M Faculty

Brooks Schultze, Mbroh’s Chief Operating Officer, had the privilege of reconnecting with Dr. Ralph Wurbs, Senior Professor at Texas A&M University. Dr. Wurbs, an influential figure in water resources systems planning and management since his work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the early 1970s, recently received the Texas Water Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of contributions to the field. His long-standing dedication to water management research, including significant work sponsored by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), continues to inspire professionals across the industry.

Technical Presentations and Insights

Among the standout presentations was a briefing from Travis Attanasio, PE, titled, “Using the Rational Method in the USACE Hydrologic Engineering Center-Hydraulic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) for Drainage Sheds.” His presentation focused on the appropriate application of the Rational Method for different land areas and its integration into HEC-HMS for managing drainage shed designs. The practical insights shared during this session were highly relevant to current challenges in hydrologic modeling.

TxDOT Director’s Panel

The TxDOT Director’s Panel assembled key leaders to discuss statewide transportation initiatives and projects. Featured on the panel were four District Engineers from across Texas:

  • Stan Swiatek, PE – Waco District
  • Tucker Ferguson, PE – Austin District
  • Noel Paramnantham, PE – Paris District
  • Ceason Clemens, PE – Dallas District

Their discussion centered on strategic investments, project grading systems, and the TxDOT Unified Transportation Plan, highlighting the future of Texas’ infrastructure and mobility.

Federal and State Grant Programs

Brooks Schultze also met with Carl Highsmith, Director of Texas District Operations at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Marsha Anderson Bomar, ASCE President-Elect. Sessions focused on federal funding and grant opportunities for Texas projects, emphasizing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and how it’s shaping high-density transportation projects across the state. The FHWA briefing underscored the importance of connecting rural and urban areas through strategic investments in infrastructure.

Overall, CECON 2024 offered valuable information and fostered meaningful connections between Mbroh and industry leaders. We look forward to applying the knowledge gained to give clients The Power To Deliver across Texas.
